This is fascinating, and something I might try. Years ago I had a session of "Thought Field Therapy" which is also based on EMDR. It took me back to a time of serious childhood illness when I was too young to be able to speak or to have any frame of reference to explain to myself what was happening. The therapist kept asking me what I was experiencing, but I was simply unable to speak, until he brought me out of my trance-like state. It was a fascinating experience, but it didn't help me process the trauma because it didn't make any rational sense - I couldn't work out what I had re-experienced. Brainspotting might be a more effective way of actually processing the trauma in a somatic way.
