Picking up the book Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life… changed my life. I read so many self-help books in my 20s. But the number I would actually recommend probably only number a dozen or so (and I wrote two of those myself! haha…) I credit the book with putting me on the path to becoming a psychotherapist!
In this interview I spoke to Fred Sly who spent years teaching communication skills to prisoners in Oregon and found it helped many of them completely turn their life around, because when they knew how to advocate for themselves using words and understand the people around them by becoming more curious, the desire to use force to achieve their outcomes receded. This is a very inspiring interview because it touches upon how these principles can help us change our own lives:
