Back Pain, Repetitive Strain Injury, Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, Joint Replacements, Scoliosis - a hundred conditions, one cause...
...and a surprising cure
This time last year I was suffering from repetitive stain injury so badly some days I was afraid to pick up my phone. I was in the midst of writing my book Big Pharma - Guess It Quacks Like A Duck so I was trying to ignore it. I thought I’d do something about it once I was finished, but the process spanned on and on and secretly I was freaking out. I mean, in my late 30s, it seemed a bit early to be falling apart. Was I gonna be debilitated?
As someone who has spent over 6 months of my 30s on yoga retreats trying to become more flexible, you can imagine how disillusioning this was! I talked a bit about my history in the article Reclamation of the Body. Why was I degenerating instead of getting better?
I know I have always struggled physically with my body. I have been excessively tight since I was a kid. It made it very difficult to participate in sports as a kid. I tried lots of physical therapies in my 20s, both mainstream ie. osteopathy, physiotherapy and chiropractic care, and alternative like craniosacral therapy and thai massage which I got more out of. All these things taught me quite a bit about my own body, but the benefits were modest. I saw a couple of physios in India that I thought were divinely inspired healers but even they couldn’t get that much out of me…
In January I was speaking at The Greater Reset in Morelia, Mexico and I came into friendship with a bodyworker named BoDreay Fraser. In one session I have to say she got more out of me than all that stuff put together! My partner had a hockey injury at school and after a single treatment with BoDreay she reported it was the first time she experienced no back pain in 15 Years!
The path was clear, I followed Bo 4 hours south to get more sessions with her and her students. I have never wanted to train in any form of bodywork in my life but after what I experienced and the extent of the benefits, I knew this was something I had to learn for myself.
So, that’s what I’ve been doing in Mexico… I’m qualified now.
